DISCOVERING
It’s simple: we’re here to reframe church itself as a living breathing adventure.
Our Vision
To ignite a community of adventurers who embody faith through shared outdoor experiences, deepen spiritual practices, and cultivate a culture of transformation that redefines Church as a vibrant, real-world journey.

The next 3 years
-
This is about building solid foundations—a strong team, clear policies and procedures, and a shared commitment to digging into God’s word and worshipping together. It’s where everything starts, grows and is sent out from.
-
Continue a rhythm of regular meetups in nature—maybe monthly events that combine adventure (hiking, paddling, climbing) with spiritual reflection and communal practices.
-
Publish a foundational resource that introduces new members to our way of life, values, practices, and adventure ethos. This guide becomes the roadmap for anyone stepping into our community but more importantly, helps to quickly send them out to new territory with purpose.
-
Continue to build a communal inventory of outdoor gear and spiritual resources, so everyone has access to the tools they need for these adventures.
-
Equip individuals from the ground up to lead gatherings in their own way, fostering a self-sustaining community that grows organically and empowers diverse voices to shape the journey.
-
Make sure we’re practicing ways of knowing God that go beyond intellectual learning. Lean into formation through embodied practices, storytelling, and experiences that bring heart and body together.
-
We’re looking at a strategy with three key parts: grant funding, regular support from the community, and income from small business ventures.

Habits: our way of life
We believe church isn’t just a building or a Sunday meeting—it’s a way of living life with Jesus. Real change happens through the things we do every day. Ocean Church isn’t just about where we meet but about building habits together that help us grow in faith and friendship.
A lot of people want to know how to live a spiritual life. We think it starts with simple, everyday practices—like praying in the morning, doing something kind for someone, or eating together. These aren’t just chores; they’re ways to live out what we believe. Building good habits takes time, but they can make a big difference in our lives. A book we really like that talks about this is Mike Frost’s Surprise the World.
Invite someone to eat with you once a week
Inviting someone to share a meal once a week is a small but powerful habit. It helps us connect, opens our hearts, and brings down walls between us. At Ocean Church, we believe that sharing meals is a great way to build friendships and understand each other’s stories better.
Connect with God in nature once a week
Spending time with God in nature each week helps us feel peaceful and clear-minded. At Ocean Church, we encourage this habit to help us grow spiritually and notice the amazing beauty of God’s creation all around us.
Worship God as a household once a week.
Worshipping God together as a family once a week helps bring you closer and strengthens your faith. At Ocean Church, we see this as an important way to make faith a part of home life, bringing everyone together in devotion and spiritual growth.

CHURCH BEYOND WALLS
Church isn’t just a place or time—it’s everywhere, all the time. But we do have two special monthly meetups, usually in Hamworthy Park.
First Saturday of the Month at 3 PM:
Join us for a gathering with food.
Third Saturday of the Month at 10 AM:
Start your day with a beach breakfast.
Our adventures can be spontaneous, so details might change last minute. Stay in the loop by joining our WhatsApp group and never miss out on where and when we’ll meet next.
The genesis of Ocean Church
A few years ago, Ocean Church didn’t have a name yet. It started as a watersports library where people came not just to borrow gear but to share stories of their adventures, peaceful moments, and the special experiences only the sea can bring.
Over time, a community grew—a group of people curious about spirituality and united by their love for the water. Together, we explored new ideas, hosting retreats on themes like “risk” and “peace,” using nature as a unique way to dive into life’s deeper questions.
A community takes shape
What started as a few meetups turned into something bigger—a way of living life together. Families and friends began meeting often to share meals, spend time outside, and grow in their faith—usually near the water. Hamworthy Park became a favourite spot, the perfect place to connect with each other, with God, and with nature.
Now, we meet at Hamworthy Park on the first and third Sunday of each month, but Ocean Church is about more than just these meetups. It’s really about a way of living—one that mixes faith, friendship, and the beauty of nature, showing us that church isn’t just a place; it’s part of everyday life.
